The Potential of Native Plants for Phytoextraction in Phytoremediation of Lead and Nickel from the Soil of Mohammadabad Qazvin Landfill

Background: Heavy metals are dangerous environmental pollutants that cause health hazards to humans, plants, and other living organisms by entering the food chain. Objectives: This research was carried out around Mohammadabad Qazvin landfill with aim of measuring concentration lead nickel in three plant species, including Artemisia sieberi, Salsola orientalis, Halimocnemis pilifera, as well soil region. Methods: In order study plots 50 × meters distances 500 from each direction prevailing wind area, sampling soil, roots, aerial organs species performed. After preparing samples, concentrations were measured using an atomic absorption spectrometer. Results: The results showed did not differ significantly terms nickel. Also, there no significant difference between roots studied these elements. statistically only H. pilifera at level 5%. Conclusions: Considering factors accumulation transportation it can be suggested A. sieberi suitable for remediation metal contaminated soils, while none phytoremediation.
